We are supporting the digitalization of a complex reinsurance process at a leading insurance company from the testing side.

The Challenge
Our client is a leading insurance company where reinsurance specialists currently use multiple SQL queries to access the data necessary for their work, which they then process in Excel.
To digitalize this process, a browser-based application is currently being rolled out that must operate within a complex insurance IT environment. The application retrieves data from the data warehouse via interfaces, while legacy and new insurance systems operate in parallel in the background. The off-the-shelf product must also be customized to meet the insurance company’s specific business needs.
The challenge, therefore, goes beyond simply implementing a new application: it is necessary to ensure that the system integrates properly with existing data sources and processes, and that custom developments function as expected.
The Solution
We participate in the project on the testing side. Our team familiarizes itself with the business requirements and specifications even before development is complete; based on these, it prepares the test cases, conducts the testing, and then reports the results.
During testing, we verify, among other things:
- that custom developments function in accordance with the specifications,
- the accuracy of data received through the interfaces,
- localization requirements, such as the handling of Hungarian characters and date formats,
- and whether the system integrates properly with the existing insurance environment.
IT testing is complemented by business testing: while the former primarily examines compliance with specifications, business testing verifies that the application adequately supports actual reinsurance processes.
Technology
MS SQL, Excel, Zephyr
The Result
The system has not yet been implemented, so we cannot discuss finalized business results at this time. However, the goal of the development is to:
- have the new application take over part of the current manual data processing, thereby reducing the time required for the workflow;
- ensure that Excel output used in existing business and regulatory processes remains available;
- the new solution supports the reinsurance process by integrating with the insurer’s existing systems and data sources;
- the current manual process remains available as a fallback solution if necessary.
